I think to judge someone's true character, you need to see them in ALL aspects of life...in defeat, in victory, in humbleness and in pride. You have to see them sad, angry, and spiteful, see them at their worst and their best, when they're annoying and when they're cool. But most deeply, you will have to see them open their heart and see the things they truly worship and what moves them. There's so much complexity in the human character, and two different people might judge completely different.

I believe everyone has something to offer me, whether they are honest or decieving, content or depressed, whatever. I don't believe in not being someone's friend unless they consistently wrong me..and even then sometimes I can't help but to forgive and continue in a friendship.

The problem is when you're trying to judge someone else's character, you're not judging yourself. You might hold that person to a certain wieght, even though it's because you don't know how to understand something they do. Someone who seems to always be a witch to everyone else might be my best friend, because I've learned not to get offended easily, especially after I've learned that she doesn't mean to hurt anyone.

i respect Seamus too! Mine would probable could be Snape. He became doubtless the most complicated deep personality, and his love for Lily makes me cry. besides the undeniable fact that, Dobby is like that cutest element EVER and that i merely love him. Neville's merely lovable too, and any such hero contained in the top. Doing it for the weirdos Longbottom! I also love Luna. They way she would not care what all people thinks and her outlook on the international merely fascinates me. very last undemanding is Hermione. She's the fictitious embodiment of me. As a feminist, she's a sturdy and effectual lady, unlike Bella in Twilight. She's no longer weak, she's self sufficient and extremely very sensible.

Yes.

Some one I was friends with for years always seemed really confident and didn't show her trueself until she was at her lowest point and couldn't pretend anymore... I'm not really friends with her anymore because I didn't know her at all.
Also, I don't think I knew my mum properly until I saw her at low points in her life. Before that I had just seen her as my mum, not a person in her own right, but now we have a better relationship.

In defeat, those who seem horrible can show more vunerable sides, making them easier to understand and sympathise with, and those who always seem really nice can reveal there true self.

I don't think you need to see someone in defeat, but when they aren't hiding anything. Often the easiest way to trust that someone has completely let there guard down is in defeat, but it isn't necessary.

A persons character? I think that how you percieve thier character is a function of your own character, more than thiers.
We all know people who think the world is populated by selfish dishonest naer-do-wells, and we all know that the fault lies with that person, rather than the rest of the world.
So judge not, ya'fool, cos you aint so hot yourself!

I think you get a great feel to someones character within the first 10- 20 seconds. Trust your original instincts, the details you will be able understand later.

Yes and no. You have to be able to watch them make mistakes, move on, and grow, but to many that isn't called defeat.

Sounds like the sort of philosophical nonsense you get from watching Matrix Reloaded.

Seraph: You do not truly know someone until you fight them.

What, like my mum?

No. Maybe see them in a stressful situation to see how they handle it. Take a road trip with them, that's a good way.
