They have a terrific manager and they are playing great. While a lot of people lean towards the Red Sox, White Sox and Yankees because of their experience in post season, this Tigers team with their outstanding pitching could surprise and go all the way! I will root for them.

Because it has happened. Look at the Phillies in 1964 or the Cubs in 1969. That does not mean the Tigers will fall apart. The Cardinals did not in recent years, and neither did the 2001 Mariners.
I think the Tigers can hold it together, but they face stiff competition. Look for the Tigers and the White Sox to be battling it out right to the finish, with the Twins waiting in the wings to take advantage of any weakness. This will probably be good for the Tigers in the playoffs -- in 2001, Seattle more or less coasted in (Lou Piniella caught a lot of flak for that because he should have been going for that 117th win, and he admitted his mistake later) and struggled in the playoffs, allowing the Steinbrenners to get into the World Series.
Tigers-Mariners in the first round of the playoffs? Stranger things have happened.

I don't think that they will fall apart, talk about a team that is clicking. They have great starting pitching, Kenny Rogers has been great so far, I've been very impressed with the rookie Justin Verlander, and their hitting has been great as well, although Chris Shelton has cooled off a bit from his hot April start, they have other bats that have been hot lately such as Inge, Granderson and Ordonez. All in all....they will be in it with the White Sox right to the end. The way it's going right now, the loser will get the Wild Card. Should be a great race to the finish, and if the also red-hot Twins could find another pitcher to go along with Santana and Liriano, they can jump into the fray as well, but they have quite a lot of ground to make up.

I don't believe the Tigers will fall apart. They have so much young talent right now. Justin Verlander should continue to dominate on the mound and Zach Miner is looking good as well. Joel Zumaya also looks like he's close to being a lights out closer for the team. Look out for Granderson when he hits his stride! I also think Thames and Ordonez add some nice pop. It's a young, talented team that should be able to put up a fight against the mighty White Sox and Red Sox. If the team doesn't win its division this year, I'd expect them to be a powerhouse in the years to come.

As the season wears on and they stay hot, the Tigers are more likely to stay in the pennant race. They haven't been a great team for awhile, so this season's success is a shocker to many of us, including this White Sox fan. Frankly, I wouldn't mind it if Detroit stuck around 'til at least September - that would keep my White Sox flying under the radar a bit, and it's nice to see an old doormat rise up and kick some butt for a change.
So no, I'm not jealous of their success - I'm actually quite thrilled for them. However, I think their inexperience with playoff runs will help fold them at the end unless they stay as hot as they are right now - if they have at least 80 wins by the end of August, they might stick it out 'til the end.

Georgie in a perfect world it would be the Tigers-Red Sox in the World Series, and the Tigers and Red Sox would continue doing as good as they have this year.[Even though we lost to the Marlins last night]Your team and hell my team have alot going aganist us and for us.We are the most hated team besides that other crap *** team in the American League, but we have some of the best players and fans.Your team is doing great this year, dont give up hope Georgie, because I will not rest until the Yankees are NOT in the playoffs this year.Like we have talked about it takes not just being a good team to go all the way it also takes some heart, and I believe the Tigers and Red Sox have it.

I'm from Detroit, and I actually want them to fall apart, but only a little bit. I do not want them to finish with the overall best record.. this was not a good thing for the Wings or Pistons, although it would be pretty cool for all 3 teams to have finished atop thier leagues.
In response to the guy commenting on Detroit riots... that was the 60's-80's. There were no riots throughout the Wings years, or the Pistons championship... nor for their Early exits this year. Get a new Stereotype.

1. Who thinks that? Every commentator I hear calls them the best team in baseball.
2. They are playing the Pirates, a good AAA team. For this weekend, you don't need to worry.
3. It's only been 3 years since the Tigers were doormats. They seem playoff bound this year.
4. We feel for you. This website is dominated by us Red Sox fans.

I don't! I hope the Tigers make it all the way to the World Series so I can finally walk around this town and see a White Sox fan in extreme emotional turmoil like I always am.
