i think to make murder punishable by murder is a joke, what is the difference between the criminal and the law if both are commiting murder. also if i were facing life in prison i would much prefer the death penalty and im sure many people on death row see it that way, fortunatly in my country we abolished the death penalty long ago and now killers have to live with their nightmares for the rest of their lives rather than getting an easy way out. we are supposed to be promoting modern liberal western values to the rest of the world but it is not very good when the wests leading nation itself cannot follow these ideals

Capital punishment ought to be reserved for criminals who cannot be controlled through the modern penal system. Currently, we have all the means necessary to keep people captive and restrained; thus, we ought not kill them.
Honestly, it's much easier for someone to die than to sit in solitary confinement for life. I think the real issue of punishment is that prisoners are given perks, such as television, gyms, etc. If you just had to sit in a cell all day long, thinking about the terrible crimes you've committed---that's a punishment.

I support capital punishment. I think it brings closure to heinous crimes. Like serial killers and repeat rapists or repeat child molesters. These people ruin lives and they don't deserve to live. However, I think capital punishment should be used wisely and only if there is NO doubt surrounding a person's guilt.

if a person commits murder then they should be put to death. life is easy on them as they get to live while your loved one is dead. the only differance in the case is a severe mentally challenged person. there are a few known cases where they killed not even knowing right from wrong having a iq of 45 and were put to death. the u.s. supreme court ruled on some issues but haven't completed it yet. texas has the three credible witness law. if three see you do it, then away you go and don't wait for 15 to 20 years on appeals. as in criminal law there has to be no resonable doubt to convict. many prosecutors will do anything to get a death sentence for career advancement. the introduction of dna testing has helped prove cases and also let a convicted man go as it wasn't him. how many died that were really innocent? if a person admits to the crime and doesn't care about it, then put them to death. unless you have several credible witnesses, they need to do a better job than the courts do.

We (jurists) must have more proof than eye witnesses because many "eye witnesses" have been mistaken! What kind of proof does society need that a man/woman is truly guilty and deserving of death? I'm not sure, but what I am sure of is that in the State of Illinois, 14 innocent people have been freed from death row, thanks to DNA tests. This happens in other states too. Can jurists ever be sure? What if there's nothing to run a DNA test on?

I think there are some people who deserve death for their crimes and would do the whole world a favor by not being in it, but if asked if I could actually go along with killing someone, I would have to say no. Only God can give life and only God can take it. But like I said, there are people who deserve death, but I personally could not push the button to do it.

Premeditated murder= Death
Second offenses that resulted in death under any circumstances= Death
Drunk driving resulting in a death= Death
Gang related murder= Death
Repeat rape= Death
Repeat child molesters=Death
Many of the violent crimes would all but disappear if we started removing these people from our population permanently.

As President Abraham Lincoln once said when he was asked about any assassination attempt upon his life, President Lincoln replied, "if anyone thinks about taking my life, he must be made fully aware, he will surrender his life as well".
I agree with President Lincoln as did President John F. Kennedy.

im in total agreement with it. for those that do serious crimes (serial killing, etc.) they deserve it. plus our tax $ do not go into keeping the criminal alive and healthy if he/she gets capital punishment.

More of it is needed. I think it is wrong that a person can live longer on death row than their victim did in their whole life.
