Not nearly as much as women tend to think it's important for men to make good money.

You can go on as often as you like about equality -- and there's certainly nothing about being a woman that automatically makes you more (or less) capable than being a man -- but we're still living in the shadow of the culture that we were raised in, which was based on the shadow of the culture that our parents were raised in, and so on. No matter how quickly you want to change course culturally, it's a sea change that takes a long time (generations) to complete.

And even today, we're still bombarded with media portrayal of underpaid man equals lazy good-for-nothing man that a woman shouldn't hook up with. The flipside of that, the media portrayal of the underpaid woman, represents underpaid women as either weak (they've got to take control of their lives!) or smart (they don't need to make money, 'cuz they've got a man to give it to 'em.) Note how there is no explicit stigma being portrayed as attached to a man dating an underpaid woman (although it's implied, but media generally only successfully delivers broad and obvious messages, and the subtleties are lost.)

So you have a man who dates an underpaid woman, and nobody cares -- but if you have a woman who dates an underpaid man, lots of people care.

When you filter out the society-wide impact of this, however, you'll find tons of people who don't buy into the hype -- but still have a preference towards having a partner who makes as much as they do -- or, on occasion (if you're a guy and were raised to believe this) that women shouldn't earn any money at all.

So there's all types, but thanks to the sweeping power of media saturation to shape our cultural opinions, coupled with the inertia of living in the shadow of our parent's values and opinions, you're more likely to find a guy who will date an underpaid gal than vice versa.

Only if he's mainly interested in the things that money buys. I'd guess it's about 50 - 50. But a woman should be wary of a man who's mainly attracted to her wealth (and vice-versa, by the way).

It's hardly a solid foundation for a loving, lifetime commitment.

I believe in man being the provider, but I also believe in woman supporting the man, as in working to help. It's a partnership, and when both people work, it makes things a little easier, financially. In my opinion, she doesn't have to make a lot, and if she makes more, I don't have a problem with it. It just depends on the people in the situation.

I personally only work one or two days a wek for my spending money. My husband makes all our money. I go to school, so I'm not a bum, and I take care of our home. I think for me, my family comes first. Money is vital, but if we can make it without me making alot of money, I prefer that. I like that my husband takes care of me, it makes me feel cherished. If other women like to work full time, I feel there is nothing wrong with that, it just isn't for me

Irrelevant to me!
I think a woman should be proper for the relation and the couple can make more or less but the point is to enjoy each another and they will proceed great in life!
