Agree
Because freedom is not just given. It is earned. No one in America would have the freedom we have if someone didin't fight for it. Now this quote seems to be saying that the freedom we are supposed to have is taken from us which is true to an extent... you don't have the freedom to kill whoever you please, you don't have the freedom to steal money from a bank, you don't have the freedom to do a lot of things but you still have the freedom to vote for your leader. You have the freedom to work where you want to and are not just given a job due to demands. You have the freedom to go to school and better yourself. Even more contraversly you have the freedom to have an abortion! There are many people in other countries that don't have any of these freedoms.... because they did not have anyone fighting for thier freedoms
The quote should read
Freedom is not given, it's earned.

I would agree. Freedom is taken, it is gained. From the first moment we are born, we take our freedom from our own mother, to a place unknown by our newborn selves, disconnected by what once joined us physically to her, and from that moment on it becomes the inner battle within. Freedom is an ideal constructed and divided into many forms. Legally it can be misleading, when a prisoner is released from jail, you could say he was given freedom, but go deeper to it, his own rights, his own penalties, his own faults and what he payed for it, maybe economically, maybe he just suffered almost half a lifetime in a cell. He was not given freedom, he took freedom by paying it right.
In the simplest form, a human being is alone in the woods and is attacked by pack of wolves: His freedom becomes threatened, therefore he must take, he must fight for it to regain freedom, and he might just lose the battle. Nature wouldn't have forgiven him, for nature has its hunger (being the wolves just looking for meat).
And yes, our nations and cultures and their politics have led us to believe that they have given us freedom, when in fact we have gained it ourselves. Freedom, like life, unlike death, is something that is priceless once you know that you have it.
And if there's a debate on which you have killed another human being and "taken" his freedom from him, to gain your own freedom, you're wrong. Nature gave us wisely our own counscience, so that even if we have thought to have taken freedom, our faults and mistakes will haunt us for the rest of our days. Ideally, that's NOT freedom.
I wouldn't be surprised if the quote were from some islamic leader or some political figure though, but it's a good quote.

I disagree because freedom is a right everybody has access to but it is the decision of other people that makes freedom taken from.

Freedom isn't free. It's fought for with blood, sweat and tears.
