You wait 4 hours in between the two. Motrin is supposed to be taken every 8 hours, and tyelnol (aka acetamenophin) can be taken every 4 hours. You will be putting an 8 hour hold on both medications. Which is ok according to most doctors.

hi there,
Always alternate between tylenol and motrin every 2 hours. Your childs fever should break fairly soon. Did your doctor prescribe an antibiotic for the ear infection itself?
After the fever breaks, use only one or the other and follow the directions

You can give your child Tylenol every 4 hours, but can only give Motrin every 8 hours. If you gave the Motrin at 4p.m. then you can give the Tylenol a 8 p.m.

my son had the same thing... i think you wait 3 hours apart.. but my sons ear infection was so bad and he was in so much pain, that my doctor told me to wait and hour after the one that was given and then rotate them as directed on the labels.. tylenol every 4 hours, and motrin every 6.. you may want to give your doctor a quick call... though... to be sure. normally the person answering calls can answer a question like that.

Acetaminophen side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
In rare cases, acetaminophen may cause a severe skin reaction that can be fatal. This could occur even if you have taken acetaminophen in the past and had no reaction. Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling. If you have this type of reaction, you should never again take any medicine that contains acetaminophen.
Stop taking acetaminophen and call your doctor at once if you have:
- nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite;
- dark urine, clay-colored stools; or
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Correct, every 4 hours, enough for each seperate medicine to digest and metabolize. Acetaminophen (tylenol) and Ibuprofen (motrin) have been known to cause stomach bleeding when taken together, so just as long as they're not being digested at the same time she should be alright. However, aspirin and tylenol has been known as a safer mix and can be taken together (excedrine). I hope this helps!
