If it were travelling at the speed of light you would not have to worry about stopping as the car would have shrunk out of existance as we know it! Any way have you ever tried to slow down light let alone bring it to a halt. As I am sure you know that would stop time. An of course the brakes would be shagged!

If it's 3.5 times the speed, then it would be about 1,050,000 km (or nearly 1 million miles). The problem is that when you're driving in these backwater areas you always get stuck behind a tractor or combine harvester, so it's not a valid question.

The formula is:
V + (v^2/20) (where v = velocity )
for total stopping distance, so knock yourself out.

light travels at 670,680,000mph. the stopping distance would be 5,732,940,334,006,867 miles. granted you had optimal driving conditions i.e. smooth dry pavment. this is based on your average car, like a honda accord. goodluck with your travels.

It depends if it is traveling at that speed at the time. ie concord traveld at that speed but didn't need 31/2 times that to stop.
And if your traveling at that speed how would you see if you had missed your stop?
