becuase it is an "unknown" color. Black is a way to stay hidden but black is also a healing color and not many people open their minds to different things and just stay scared so they have to pick on ones who wear black or surround themselves in it. And history does not help as black has been associated with different occult groups and hate groups, so on....
I personally love black, it's a mixture of all....a healing color, and protective color.
I suppose people are just twisted and just stay brainwashed..

Do you know how black is created?Research it or ask an artist. One drop of black in any color, especially white, is so strong that there is no reversal. We have light brown, light green, light yellow but not light black. When you want to depict depth, what color is used?Whether you put black on red or red on black, it works.Black is an absence of color; yet it is a combination of colors. In western culture, black may have negative connotatin or figurative/idiomatic meaning.. For example, I had a black cat as a pet once and she was an amazing and welcomed addition to my life. Mitzi changed my thinking about black cats and 'bad luck.'Black is strength and power.Culture created those negatisms associated with black.

It has to do with the psychic science of auras ... different colors for different moods. Black is the darkest "color", many alternative religions (i.e witchcraft) are referred to as the "Black Arts", people wear black to funerals or while in mourning, therefore giving black a negative connotation.

in an inbuilt reaction, black represents the dark, the dark preresents the unkown and possible dangers (like nocturnal predators)

a lot of people try and make it about race but I don't personaly feel thats it, I mean everyone is nervous about the dark to some extent, its a natural reaction.
