You inherit a genetic vulnerability (identical twins will share the disorder 50% of the time, so its not purely genetic); so if you have the vulnerability, some experience usually triggers it - nobody knows for sure what these experiences are, but stress is thought to be an important influence.

most patients start out developing negative symptoms or trends of symptoms early on. like around 18 or so. they just start withdrawing socially more and more, and gradually indulge themselves in fantasy. positive symptoms like hallucinations, bizzare perceptions and delusions may start to develop after a time. but the on the other hand, their are acute psychotic episodes that can come over a person with high levels of stress that may or may not be permanent depending on how well integrated and solid their personality development has been

Well it is frustrating, your mind is a stew and sometimes you feel rather scared insecure confused and often Autism is with it, hissing and humming voices and seeing them and snakes, people right behind you often trying to hurt or help you, like a never ending dream, but rather thankful for soothing medicines, helpful caring doctors and people. supportive world with trust, respect treating you just like others because we are all rather differently the same!

You see things that aren't there, hear things, become paranoid of EVERYTHING. It requires medication and therapy. I know.
