Is it safe to eat with pewter ware?

I have pewterware that I got instead of silverware when I got marrried. It is rarely used. Rather than waiting for a holiday I thought it would be good to use it daily. My husband voiced some concern about the lead content. Does any one know if it is harmful?

The lead is set free when using - and lead is highly poisonous for the body.

I really would not use the dishes.

there a bit tough on the filling's.
