I did the same to my PC before and that's my current setting, much easier now though.

1. Open any document
2. Go to Tools tab
3. Choose Folder options
4. Go to General tab
5. Look into the third category (click items as follows)
6. Click Single-click to open an item (choose either one below it)
7. Click Apply button, then you're done!

Hope this helps.

I remember there being a way in the settings for your desktop to change it to one click, rather than a double click. But there is a simpler way.

Drag icons down into your toolbar at the bottom. Where the indicators for each window go? They'll show up next to the Start button (or wherever you have them configured to go; next to the Start button is only the default location). The icons you drag down to the toolbar become single-click buttons.

Open "Explorer" or "My Computer". Click on Tools and scroll down to "Folder Options" in the drop down list. Click "Folder Options" and then select the single click option in the "Click items as follows" Section. Click ok and it is done. Repeat to disable if you do not like it. Hope it helps.

OK in order to do that left click once with the mouse on the icon you want and hit enter.
There is a perpurse of these - one click is to highlight what you have selected and the next click is to open . but if you have any icon which has a hyperlink then you can click once on that icon. provided you have a hyperlink to that icon.

I'm not sure but...if you do end up finding a way, believe me you will be clicking things left and right accidentally. Its a double click for a reason. It prevents mistakes. I'd leave it.
