The President does not set gas prices, but actions by any world power can have an effect.
Gas prices are set by a variety of tangible and intangible factors that reflect themselves on the oil futures market. OPEC can cut or increase oil production, a storm can can damage oil infrastructure, or (as we have seen this week) a rouge nation can test launch a missile.
The bottom line is that any major world event can affect a change of price at the pump. Whether that event has something to do with oil or not doesn't matter. Oil traders are skittish and are in it to make money, not ensure low gas prices for the consumer.

The cause of gas price increase is .... GREED! G-R-E-E-D the worst 5 letter word in the english language... the government wants to have their big expensive ol' cars, their 5 houses, airplanes, etc. Why in the world would Hillary Clinton go for senate after Bill was outta office? MONEY PEOPLE! They don't want to help us.. they want to make themselves happy! They don't raise minimum wage cause they want us broke, so we can ask them for money and we will be rapped around their little finger!
Heck did you know that every man that has been president, even though he isn't in office still makes $260,000 per year and has secret service? Yeah and who pays for it? The tax payers. The little people that have an actual job! Not some job that meets every so often to have fights about who it republican and who is democrat.. such Babies! WHAAAAAAAA!
-- America it is time to do something about how our government is running this country! They spend more on other countries than for our own! Find out your congressman and call them and tell them what you want done... It is time.... or our children aren't going to have a country!
Laura
P.S. Did you know that Alaska has enough oil to provide fuel for our country for 1000 years? But Bush won't let them drill!

The cause of the increase in gas prices has to do with the cost of crude oil in the stock market. As crude oil comes from a variety of different places / countries ( when it is sold to Canada or the U.S. ) , gas stations have to pay out the price for the gas plus a 2% right up in order for the company to make money.

Greed on part of the American oil companies. If growing demand on the part of India and China were the cause for rising gas prices, then why aren't prices going up all over the world. Why are gas prices only going up in the United States? It all comes down to making as much of a profit as they can. The worst part of it is that we all are taking it seating down and our government isn't doing anything about it!

Because rather that using the fuel that we have right here in the United States we are purchasing from overseas, which means that greedy bastards are charging too much. It is Bush's fault. he is a jack *** and should not be president. he is running this country into the ground and has been since day one. if the end of the world comes, it will be his fault because he has his head up his ***

The reason for the enormous jump in fuel prices is that the gready oil companies and their friend in high places ( Bush and company) are greedy and the trouble in Iran and Iraq give them a wonderful excuse to blame it on!

OPEC natiosn set oil prices. This causes the increase or decrease in gas prices. Bitter and hateful individuals like to blame our leaders, but that view is unsubstantiated.

And yes I agree, I have a car that runs off Compressed natural gas and regular gas so I am not too worried but we have so many fuel options I think it is stupid that Bush doesnt start getting fuel from America!

Greedy companies and Bush on his war. A better question would be why don't we switch to other alternatives sooner and again the blame goes to Bush.

Big business realizes they only have Bush in their pocket for another year and a half so they have to throw caution to the wind just in case they can't buy the next President.
