Omg, I know the last answer was like over 30 mins ago but this is just, made me almost fall over the chair.
Witches (Wiccans) are people are of a religion who like worship the earth. They believe in the three fold law called Karma. you know the "What you do comes back at you times three"
Whats this about "Power" TV LIES, LIES LIES LIES. They make witches look AWFUL.
They do have some power, but its not to fly or to move stuff. NOTHING you see on TV. For many many hundreds of years people have thought nothing but bad about them. Why? I dont know, I cant understand why people would want to think so badly about such a peaceful religion. They care about the earth and dont want war. You know all that goody two shoe stuff.
They are healers (I guess thats one of their powers), but they dont just use a magic wand and say words and your healed. Healing ALWAYS takes time.
and it does go generation from generation. Its a Pre-Christian religion. VERY very old. and NOT evil.
They say they worship the devil, nope sorry thats the satanists. Witches dont believe in a devil nor demons. They dont even believe in a Hell!
So, Hope that clears a few things up for whoever reads this. !!!
Good luck n stuff!!

Most young Wiccans tend to be there for the promise of spells and power, but never actually get to see them. Anyone who claims to be a Wiccan witch is usually only after an Ego boost and has never done any real magic. The few genuine ones I have known, do NOT shout it out as they rightly see their power as sacred. Mastery of magic, on the other hand, away from religion, is alive and well. We all have the power within us to do great and super-natural things, usually though, it is bred out of us through interaction with mainstream society. Usually, the 'gift' is passed from female to female within the family, although men can learn it and a few posses the gift the same as the females do. Unfortunately, nowadays, everyone who calls themselves Wiccan, thinks that qualifies them automatically to be a witch - that's what is called a 'Modern Witch'. The true ones, you should never really know about unless you work in those circles, as trust is still a big issue there.
So in essence, no. Modern witches don't have any powers other than what their Egos allow them. Students of the ancient Arts, however, that's another matter.

Here's a little test for you to find out if someone REALLY knows the Ways...ask them about the 'Trials'. Like how many are there and what they are. If they don't know what you're on about, they don't know the Art.

There are born withches then there are book witches. Born witches are born with their "gifts" books witches usually don't have them. Born witches can have gifts from the 4 elements earth, air, fire and water. Also most who try to mess around with magic do more bad than good, which can cause many different things to happen. So be careful and remember the rule of three.

Yes witches still have power, they can make good or bad things happen. Just about anything they want or need can come to pass. They learn by practice and repetition. Same as everyone else.

Branwen is right. We practice earth rituals. It is more for love than power. Now, in some cases, the Deities choose certain children (not children, but practioners) to have special talents, but that takes many years of servitude. Like my First teach said, With great power comes great responsiblities. Ya, you may wish for certian gifts, but are you really ready to accept the consequences of them?

It's all in your mind. TThere is no I was born a witch and such. People only use a small percent of their brains. By believing in witchcraft you can do such "magic". People who claim to be witches just believe that they are. "Powers" are a state of mind. You can most likely do anything. If you set your mind to it.

They can cause you pain and even death. Powers passed down through generations. A little diluted over time. Best to stay clear of them.

It's kinda like the seventh son of a seventh son deal, they have powers believe me, be careful what you say about them, they kinda like it when you bust on them, then you get cursed when you least expect it.
