This hispanic south americans I know don't like them because they (per my friends) think they're superior europeans not (inferior) south american. They don't even acknowledge they speak espanol, it's castillano! My brazilian friends don't like them for similar reasons but also because of their soccer rivalry.

I agree with Flor in many aspects. I don't know why some people hate Argentina.... I don't know why some or lets say a lot of people hate the US, and Germany and France, to give some examples. There's always a reason. Argentina got the best of the immigrants, we were not colonized by farmers, but by mostly mid-upper class Europeans. But going back to soccer, I think people around the world don't like Maradona, but oh yes, when I travel people ask me where I'm from and I answer, Argentina, and they say ahhhhhhhhh Maradona.....great player. The hand of God should have been penalized by the referee son don't blame fatty for that. Anyways, I'm from Argentina, married with a Mexican, and I am snob and he doesn't seem to hate me, ha!

They hate us because:
1. We're full-blooded Europeans born on American soil, and that irks both the Europeans and the "Americans". Does being born in a stable make you a horse? No. I'm not saying we think we're better than the rest of America; I'm just saying we're different. Trust me, in the past few years I've met a lot of Mexicans in the USA, and the fact that both our countries were founded by Spanish colonists doesn't take away that we're as different (culturally) as night and day. Culturally, we feel a lot more at home with Italians, or Spaniards (the ones who don't hate us, anyway), since we've lost the nationality but not the culture.
2. We actually have a talented football team, pretty much all the time. So talented that only one of our guys plays in Argentina; the rest are all in Europe or Brazil.
3. They don't realize (or don't care) that the average Argentinian was not responsible for the Falklands, that we were under a MILITARY DICTATORSHIP desperate to keep its power.
4. They think we're all cheaters because Maradona scored with his hand ONCE (way to generalize! I hope you feel smart!) and they want more than thirty million people punished for Maradona's mistake.
5. They think we're too smug/arrogant (Taken a look in the mirror lately?)
6. "They don't know why." I've seen this on this very message board. Oh, I HATE ARGINTN BUT I DUNO Y. Let's look past the capital letters and the horrid spelling...see any logic? I don't.
Who cares? Our boys played a brilliant game, and the Germans only won because they cheated (took out the good goalie and received absolutely no punishment for it) and got a biased ref in their favor, plus they're FIFA's love affair for 2006, aka the home team.

People don't hate Argentina they just choose not to cheer for them, you cheer for you team. Although there is one of the greatest football rivalries between Argentina -v- Brazil, it started very early, both wanting to be South Americas best, and it resulted in a huge and legendary clash whenever the two play.. So maybe you might see a lot of Brazilians and and Argentines "hating" each other, but its actually just good competition.

I strongly disagree with forzza italia. That is an idiotic way to speak about Maradona , one of the greatest ever.
Argentines are mostly hated by Brazilians & English. Brazilians because they are the only South American team which can challenge Brazil. English as they havent got over Falkland Island & are pissed off as Argentina are a better team than they are.

Two reasons--many other Latin Americans see Argentinians as snobs (think the French of Latin America) who look more towards Europe (it has a lot to do with the type of immigration...more Italian than mostly Spanish as in other nations nearby) for inspiration and turn their backs on the rest of Latin America.
Second reason may have to do with the play acting (note the connection with Italy) and diving. They have been experts at gamesmanship throughout the years from the rattin sedning off in teh 1966 Finals to the 1978 Final when they went on about V.D. Kerkhof's bandaged arm delaying the start of the Final and to Maradona's Hand of God.
I do know my Mexican friends absolutely hate Argentina of all nations besides the U.S.

i dont see why ppl have to hate other teams if they support their favorite teams. goes to show immaturity.
it is a fact- argentina is immensely talented. today i just felt it was a stroke of ill luck that argentina had to lose- they definitely desrved to go forward in this tournament.
P.s i 100% agree with "flor"- yes, the way they took out the argentine goalie was just horrible

Argentina may be talented but that hand of god thing turned me off them. Also their arogance is so ennoying. They are cheaters with all their players probably on cocaine and steriods trying to follow the overrated stupid fat Maradonna. ( His celebrations are so ennoying). I was hoping that both Germany and Argentina got disqualified in that match but tough luck.

Because they hate Italy too and many Argentines are of Italian descent . In fact, the connection has already been pointed out and we both have been called "divers" and "cheaters" ;-)
... Why do they even bother to read that anti-racism thing at the beginning of every game...?
