I am a little hazy on the details, I read this a few years ago. At the end of a match in the now-defunct North American Soccer League, with a team winning by a few goals, the winning team's fans began the countdown early, and after the reached zero, a player on the losing team, obviously frustrated, kicked the ball into his own net. Of course, the countdown was early, so the game was still going, and the goal stood. I will get back to you after I try to find this on google. Oh and I read that in Soccer For Dummies, so I am positive there is some truth in it.

zacardo from italy just did in the world cup match vs the us. the only goal scored on italy was by italy. what can anyone say about italia now!
