What's wrong is that many people may not understand what your abbreviation stands for.

For example, you just used the abbreviation "fr" but omitted the expression it stands for. So I and many other people don't understand what it stands for, because you've not given enough context.

You also gave the abbreviation "bf" for "best friend", but you have to be aware that other people may misinterpret your abbreviation as standing for "boyfriend" instead of "best friend", or some other expression.

It is a problem especially when you don't give enough context so people can correctly interpret what your abbreviation stands for.

I think it's ok when you're talking to people that know what you're talking about. I think for "best friend" you should use bff (best friends forever). It's corny but it won't get confused with bf (boyfriend). The only problem is if you have to explain all your abbreviations to someone then what's the point? You might as well type it all out. Plus, you can get great practice on the keyboard! I know that's lame, but whatever fancies you.

When you say BF, some people may think it means boyfriend or bestfriend, but they will never really know. In other words they just get confused.

nothing I don't think.... well you do have to be careful how you use them... context should help... for example, fr could be interpreted as french and bf could be interpreted as boyfriend (I would recommend bff for best friend)... in general, though, as long as the abbreviation can be understood in the context of what you are saying it is okay...

Dont you know how bad it is to save keystrokes??? Especially if you spend a lot of time on the computer, this valuable time that you waste spelling out things like best friend could be detrimental to your health!

Who was the retard that criticized you for shorthand?

nothing, as long as the person knows what you are referring to fr could be short for many thing - why not use the "o" it's only one letter.

It is completely unacceptable to use those abbreviations in any correspondance other than internet chat.

Do not use those abbreviations in a written/typed letter!
