I have a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4.3 Vortec Engine that I plan to use in another vehicle for a project. I would prefer to have a carburetor instead of the fuel injection. Is it possible to change the intake maintaining the VORTEC heads? The engine is going into a classic car, and I want to maintain that look, while using the engine I have available to me. And If I change the intake, how will this affect other components?

Yes, you can buy an intake manifold for vortec heads using a 4 bbl carburetor. Summit or Jeg's can help you find what you need. The intake goes for about $240 - check Edelbrock part # EDL - 2114 in the Summit catalog or website.

speaking in strictly technical terms, the answer is yes you can.

making a 4.3 Vortec look like it belongs in a classic car, no way.

1) Vortecs can have a carbureted manifold swapped in, assuming that your STATE LAWS allow you to do this.

2) Vortecs have a REVERSE water pump rotation that cannot be changed.

3) Vortecs have serpentine belts, on a reverse rotation. Obviously, not era correct. I believe you are talking about a 4.3/262 , also, not era correct.

all told, a new intake, carburetor, fuel preussure regulator, etc. will run you around $2000.00 or so, depending on if you need custom engine mounts, plumbing, wiring, etc.

I don't like the Vortec's architecture, but it is a formidable machine. Since it is the "new" engine, barring the LS1, or Old Iron (1968-1973 corporate blocks). Check out Carcraft.com for engine re-build, upgrade information in their back issues.

hope this helps

You CAN do it. You might need to purchase a few different things. You will have to get a carburator that will work with a smaller engine like the one mentioned above. You also might, i don't know about this, you might have to change to a different type of distributor, and other things, but it will be a very simple swap and will work without a problem.

yes you can but you need to order a bolt on plate for that engine and you need to get a carborater that will work with the existing engine
