I too drink almost every night.I work every day,I have a wife and child,a productive life, and loving parents.I never get violent or abusive.I guess it might be more habitual than anything, but it sure is nice after a ten hour day!

There is a big difference, first one a drinker can stop at any time, an alcoholic is addicted and must have it to live.
Some weeks I drank every day, but then I go months without having any at all, I guess that makes me a drinker, because I don't have to drink.
I think that is the difference, so drink away, and smoke away, just don't let it control your life.

Regardless of how much you provide, you are still an alcoholic if you "need" to drink. You may not see what drinking does to your family, because that is what alcohol does, it makes it go away. As for Smoker vs. Pothead, I prefer pothead. There is no politically correct way of saying it.

Well, you are right, it certainly does sound better, but then domestic engineer sounds better than "just a housewife" too. Political correctness has already gone way too far, I'm not into stretching reality any further just to make a lush or a pothead feel better about themselves. Sorry, dude.

An alcoholic is someone who has a psychological need to drink. If you can't voluntarily give up drinking, you're an alcoholic.
You may be a functioning member of society, but you're still damaging yourself internally.
Get some help ... and if you think you can "control your drinking", then the drink is controlling you.
