You're not going to make much doing it, but it is a legit business. Of course there are scam sites out there. You usually have to do some "homework" online before you go shopping. Such as learn what to look for and what you're supposed to ask. In a lot of cases it's more of a hassle than it is worth to make the $5-10 most outings pay.
If you're looking for other easy ways to make money, I'd recomend things like online surveys. There are scam sites for these as well, but I make some money every month doing these and some other things. The best survey site I use is called MySurvey, http://fun.mysurvey.com/join.cfm?r=2610195 .
I've got some other sites and info on my website too, http://stanza.50megs.com

I have been a secret shopper a few times. The pay is pretty lousy unless you are a shopaholic. Most generaly you will be paid $5 to $10 per shop. Sometimes you are asked to buy something small and you will get reimbursed for that. If you want a full time job that pays well keep looking!

I do this on occaision, but you get paid what max $10, and that is gas money to go and do the shop. So, it isn't like you will be making a killing of anything. I will include a site that is legit. I have done several with this company. Check it out.

i have been... you make between 9 - 20 dollars per shop. Plus reimbursement for whatever you had to buy, if anything. Usually under 10 dollars.
