As a manager I do get turned off when people call so quickly inquiring about the position- especially if I have given them a time frame as to when the position would be filled by. The one thing that is overlooked thesedays is a thank you note.
Everytime I have received a thank you note I have indeed hired that person. It shows a little more class in a not-so-classy world.
If you were not told that the position would be filled by a certain time I would wait 3-4 days before inquiring- when calling just simply state that you had an interview on whatever day and were just following up to see if the position had been filled or not yet. But don't call the next day- that looks too desperate.

I would definitely wait a week unless it were A) a sales position..sometimes for sales jobs..they want aggressive people..but even then...the next day is not advised every 3 days would be appropriate B) they told you to call them the next day. If you do call them the next day..they would probably think you are desperate or over eager. I would just e-mail them or send them a thank you note. This is more polite and it just shows them your interest.
After you wait a week, followup. Just ask them them politely what your status is for the position. If they still do not know, wait another week and then call again. Repeat until they tell you it is filled or you got the job. Good luck.

Do not call them! One day is too soon for them to make a decision. They may still be interviewing candidates and you don't want your name to stick out as a nag. Send a follow up letter, e-mail or fax to the company. Thank them for interviewing you, remind them of your interest in the position (state the name of the position), maybe remind them of your top three skills that will be able to bring to the position and then just wait. Also, continue to send out resumes and looking for jobs. Don't bank on one particular job to come in. You may find another job out there that you will like even better!

You should call and say you are calling just to follow-up on a position you interviewed for and they should be able to advise you how long it will take before you hear if you are one of the final candidates or if the job has been filled. Good luck.

normally I get George W Bush or Warren Buffet to make the call for me.
It goes like this. Hi, this is Warren Buffet calling for my good friend (insert name) and want to know when they will start with your company. They applied for (state position). Get back to me by noon, if your company wants to stay in business. Have a nice day.

I think you should wait another day at least. Your impatience might turn them off. If you really can't wait then pretend you wanted to make sure they had your cell phone # on file or something like that. And then you can say honestly tell them, "I really would like to work for you and hope to hear from you soon."
