Awesome thanks guys.. i'm sure some people might feel offended still but as someone had said, some people will always feel offended.
I didn't think it was a big deal, just wanted to make sure since sometimes people look at me weird when i say black.
I'll just say black and chinese (except if i'm in a nice area talking with people that i need to be very polite to) Cause for me Asian and African American is too long.. as long as i don't say N***** or C**** then i think i'll be fine and no one should feel offended.. thanks!♥

I don't think so. If you say "Hey you chinc" or "What's up ni**a" then yes that's rude and offensive. I'm white and I grew up with many different black people and I consider many of them close friends and I never have to think twice about saying "black" because calling them "African American" is too long and official, she's my irish friend, he's my cuban friend, and they're my black friends. Why is that offensive?

Politically speaking, being called black can be offensive to some. Being called an African-American will offend some more. Call someone a colored and they might just try to fight you. But if you call anyone a ****** you better watch your back. In saying this, nothing in our society will ever be correct. Black, white, caucasian, asian, chinese, arab, pakistanian, or indian. I feel as though you may call me whatever, just don't disrespect me. I feeel as though our society has taken a drastic step towards the betterment of the society however we have taken a small step towards the betterment of mankind.

i think that when people get in the habit of calling black americans "african-americans" then they are definately doing to screw up when they meet some one who is black but not american. that totally pisses me off when people call non-american blacks african-americans, like blacks living in south america or england or whatever, and i'm sure it pisses them off even more!
i know canadians that get PISSED when people call them americans. people will actually come to canada and call them americans, (on accident) just because they are white and speak english.
i think it all is just a matter of opinion too. it depends on the person you are calling that. i personally hate to be called caucasian or a lady or miss. it's just me though. i never say anything about it, because i know it's irrational for those terms to bother me, just as i'm sure someone would think of being called black/african-american.

I've often wondered that myself. I don't think so but I could be wrong. African American is too much of a mouthful. I don't expect people to call me Caucasian.

in each of the people it would be polite to ask first what to call them. And two it depends on the age of the people so ask first. some people believe and it is an insult to them if you call them black, or chinese so ask first.

Quite frankly I personally don't consider myself "black" nor African American more like an American who just so happens to be carmel coated. As for my brothers and sisters from other mothers,it's all on you.Just don't call me late for dinner....(smiling)

everything has to be "politically correct" nowadays, no matter what you say you're gonna offend someone. not all blacks are african americans, sorry but not all are african! there are other countries/continents that they are from, sorry, but it's the truth

I don't think it matters. Rude can be the way words are said, the tone of voice, etc, but not the word.
