Yes, yes I do. You lecture them at length until their jaws drop or they fall asleep with their heads on their desks in a pile of drool. No, wait, that was the old way.
The new techniques include telling kids they are all smart and worthwhile without holding them at all accountable for hard work, respect for others or personal responsibility.

uh, the "california" way you mean? I think that mostly you dont bother the kids with facts and problems and schoolwork, and concentrate instead on making sure they feel good at the moment, and let the prisons and welfare department worry about them when they become dysfunctional adults.

listen . teach but don't be boring and get up to speed on the new things for kids know their music, games, slang, movies, and other things that interest them... you don't have to like it but knowing it they will think you are cool and have more respect for you just remember you are the adult so don't cut them slack or they will always take it.
