My first labor was 2 hours and 15 minutes. I've heard that the 2nd baby comes much faster. Should I ask the doctor to induce me, to ensure that I will be at the hospital? I've been real worried about not making it on time.

Discuss this with your doctor and see what he/she says. I definitely understand your concerns, but Im not really for inducing unless medically necessary. Sometimes those few extra days in utero are necessary to ensure your baby is 100% healthy. Thats why babies come when they're ready unless like I said before its medically necessary. An alternative to inducing is to just stay home and be ready to pick up and leave for the hospital at a moments notice. Just a suggestion and good luck.

I was induced on both of my pregnancy's and I loved it!!! I did not labor long after the contractions and the baby came in less than 5 minutes of pushing!!! I went in at 330 pm got the Pitocin started having contractions around 4pm got a epidural and the baby was born at 554pm. The whole time I was completely comfortable.
Everyone is different and should discuss it with your doctor.

I also had a short labor, about 3 hours. My doctor told me if I decide to have another, he will want to induce me just to be on the safe side. I was induced the 1st time for unrelated reasons. Unless your cervix is favorable (thinning and dilating) they will probably not induce. That makes for a long and painful labor.

Do you live far from your hospital? If not, I'd say no...let things happen naturally. You've had a baby before, so you know the labor signs to look for to let you know things are getting close. Just keep your bag packed and by the door and make sure there's gas in the car!

Dont get induced, trust me, the contractions are much more intense...just let nature run it's course, I'm sure you will get to the hospital on time.....I was induced and it took me 3 days to get to 7 centimeters, and they gave me an epidural and I still felt the contractions!

NO!! You dont want to be induced, it makes contractions much stronger and more painful....just let nature take its course and make sure that at the first sign of regular contractions, you go straight to the hospital!!

If your not over due then the doctor don't really like to do it. Just be ready to go at the first signs of labor. And remember you can always call 911 if you don't think you'll make it.

No. Being induced unnecessarily can put you at an increased risk for other complications. Just let your body do what it will do and be ready to get to the hospital quickly!

most doctors don't like to do this because it can cause a harder labor and possibly delivery too. yes, on average, the second delivery is smoother, but not necessarily shorter. i wouldn't worry too much if your doctor isn't concerned. do u live far from the hospital? talk to him about it.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR. This is too important a thing to leave to chance or the people on yahoo questions.
