movies, coffee bars and night life. I can't live in SF because it is far away. I don't have a car either.

San Jose, is probably a little closer. I'm from San Jose, and I had my son in Hayward. we got there in about 30-40 minutes. But it's a great place to live for someone who loves the city life. Also try Fremont! Its a nice little city.

Hayward has all of these things to a limited extent, but you can also go to Pleasanton, which has quite a developed nightlife, or Fremont both of which are on the Bart line to Hayward. You can also live in Berkeley, which is also on the Bart line to Hayward, or Rockridge, which is a nice but pretty expensive area of Oakland. There is so much in the San Francisco Bay Area that you can get to without a car. It will amaze you.
