If so how is it done and how much does it cost? I mean, can you just purchase a keyless entry pad and it's programmed or what? Thanks

keyless entry

if you have power lock they will be intergrated into the system (wired in)

if you don't have power locks you can by the actuaters to make them power, only if they will fit.

keyless system can range from 69.99 to 599.99 depending of if its has security and other functions

average price for a keyless entry install is 79.99

average price for actuaters 15.99
install of actuaters roughly 25.00 per door, could be more depending on how much work is involved.

Best bet is to take it to a installer and get a quote

I work for Best Buy as a mobile installer and those prices are what i usually quote.

you can get very cheap systems from the JC Whitney catalog. i've seen them around 90-120 bucks. My suggestion would be to get an inexpensive alarm system. most of them come with keyless entry relays on them. so you'll have keyless entry with an alarm to boot. installation is what will get you.

I bought one out of JC Whitney for $45 and installed it myself in my car a few years ago, and it's been a gem. If you don't know anything about wiring in a car though, you may have to have someone else do it for you, since the instructions for them are usually practically worthless. Some cars do have a system already installed and you'll just have to buy the key fob and have it programmed, but that's not very often. It may be best to go and have a shop do one, like a stereo installation place. It should be done for $200 to $250.

there are at least 2 places, online, I know of, that you can order the parts from, if you can do the installation yourself.

however, if you are not familiar with wiring diagrams, etc. you may want to look up a reputable, well known auto stereo installer to sell you the hardware and installation service.

also, depending on you type of vehicle, you may require minor (read: less than $1000.00) fabrication to allow for installation.

the prices can easily start at the $100.00 mark, and increase with each additional feature you may want or need
i.e. panic button, remote starter, power window module, security features, etc.

I know my friend spent around $1200.00 for a system that locks/unlocks the power doors
opens/closes the power windows
security monitoring
remote start
car finder feature
and of course, the panic button

the easiest way, is to call a dealership, that specializes in your vehicle, to find out if the equipment you WANT, was offered as an option for your vehicle. If so, order it, and have them install it.

hope this helps.
