check your ph7.4-7.6 is normal chorine should be 2.4-2.7 is o.k alkalinity etc.also be sure to check your cyan.acid/stabelizer.use litium hypochlorite to shock your pool it's more expensive but kinder to your vinyl liner.you can take a water sample in to your pool store to have it checked they will tell you what to do.be sure to go elbo deep and away from water returns to get your sample

go to your local pool supply store (or if you have a walmart near you, they have pool chemicals.) you can either buy a test kit, or they have these little chlorine test strips, or you can also take a sample of your water to most pool supply stores. they can do a computer analysis on the water and let you know exactly what you 'll need to put in.

Liquid shock. It works faster and you don't have to worry about it eating up your liner like the granules do. The bottle should tell you how much to use.
