No, hardcore is way seperate from punk. Punk will forever stay what it has been in the past... Blink 182 is a great example of punk. Like Green Day, they are pure punk. Simple Plan and Avril Lavine are just different variations of punk. Screamo and hardcore aren't gonna become the new punk. Your question is almost like asking "Is country the new rock?" Of course not! They are completely different...

There is a HUGE difference between hardcore and emo. If you were to go to a hardcore show and compare them to emo kids you'd probably find yourself with a few broken bones. But as far as hardcore being the new punk. I agree in some aspects. Yes, there's definitely a subculture to hardcore kids like there was to punk in the early 80's, but punk was more of a social conscience than just music. I think hardcore is just about the music. There isn't really a message behind it. And emo kids are just gay

please don't ever compare emo and hardcore again. they are nothing alike. you asked if hardcore was the new punk. saying that hardcore was "emaciated feminine boys who scream and wear make up and have stylish hair" - that's NOT hardcore at all.
and, no, i don't think that anything will replace "punk" like the Pistols and the Ramones - they were classic and won't be forgotten or replaced by newer, different bands. Hardcore is hardcore and punk is punk...

there is no new punk bands like the Pistols, Black Flag, the Germs ect. they were totally unique. The stuff that's out there today is all bubble gum punk at best. They're not upsetting anyone with "time of your life" or "More Human then Human" Like or dislike Sid Vicious, Darby Crash and all others, there's no denying these guys got stabbed, beat up and spit on. i.e. Johnny Rotten stabbed for "God Save the Queen", Wendy O Williams for simulating masturbation on stage. And the "new" punk kids today...WEAK!!! I'd rather die then put a mouth guard on prior to going in the pit. I've seen warm-up stretches being performed also!! Very Anarchistic of them. Let's not forget that you pay tax on that shirt you get from Hot Topic that says "F#@* the government" on it. There is no punk left!!! They almost all died from herion O.D.'s in the late 70's.

Well, hardcore and emo are not really that new.
They both emerged in the mid-80's. Hardcore is short for hardcore punk and emo is short for emotional hardcore. They both came after punk, so in that sense they are more recent form of punk, but post hardcore came after hardcore.
Many of the bands that you mention are not true Hardcore and Emo bands, but some kind of Pop-Emo or Post-Post-Hardcore.

Green Day and Blink 182 are not the "old" punk -- the Ramones and The Clash, etc. are the true punk bands. Nothing will be the "new" punk -- it will always stay true to the original.

i liked the old "Punk" green day,and i luv blink182. but today's new "punk" isn't all bad. times are changing and so are styles. no one can stop it from happening. there are ups and downs. you know. there are some good positive things that come from this type of change and then again like always bad negative things come too. but i am a fan of new punk and a fan of the old punk. there will always be people that hate the new punk and people that luv it. it's just the way this world works sadly we can't all agree 24-7 and sadly there will always be change. there is no stopping that.

Well geez, I think "punk" is gone completely and has been replaced with a bunch of 3 power chord playing wannabe's that think if they die their hair and stick some safety pins in their nose that they are punk.
Punk is about attitude. Punk is about fighting the system.
Punk is not about pretending to fight the system *coughgreendaycough* and getting paid lots of money to do it. The true punk rockers played clubs many years ago, alas, they are gone now.

Absolutely not.
Why does everyone ask this? EMO IS NOT PUNK!
There is no such thing as "new" punk. Punk is raw, hard, pure reaction to the perceived failure of a system. It is anti-establishment because the established corps has failed it.
You either tap into what is punk or you emulate punk. You don't redefine it.
