Like many marketing ploys, the intention is to look better.
When we see the price 2.69.9.
Our brain says 2.69 when in fact it is 2 dollars, 69 cents and 9/10's of cent, or actually almost 2.70.
We should in fact, round up and read it as 2.70.
I guess we are lucky they don't price it in hundreths of cents.

ok well see its like say the price is 2.55 with an upper case nine at the end. that means that its practically 5.56 cents. its just like 1/10 of a cent away from 2.56 cents.

Because it rounds up the the next cent. So 2.999 is actually $3 per gallon. They have to squeeze every last cent out of us they can you know.

So they can weasel an extra penny out of everybody. In a few states (I forget which ones) it is illegal to put in .9

cos advertiser think 9 or more consumer related to getting you to purchase something, rather than using 5 or 0. it's a psychology & martketing stragey thing.

.9 stands for 9th of a whole cent so it is about 2.92
