i think that race/ gender/ ethnicity shouldn't matter when getting into college, or getting a job, but isn't affirmative action bad for america. Because for college admissions a female applicant has the same chances of getting into a college as a male applicant with a score that is 50 points higher on the SATs than hers, isn't that unfair to the male applicants that got 25 points higher than the female applicant, isn''t it also unfair corporations because they may have to choose an unqualified canidate for a job just because they are a minority. I agree with what the affirmative action movement stands for, that everyone has an equal opportunity, but isn't it unfair to some qualified candidates for universities/colleges and for jobs that they may not be accepted or hired because the corporation/ college has to make up their quota.

An affirmative action study by Princeton sociologists in 2005 attempted to break down and compare the effects of the practice among racial and special groups. The data from the study represent admissions disadvantage and advantage in terms of SAT points (on the old 1600-point scale):

* Blacks: +230
* Hispanics: +185
* Asians: -50
* Recruited athletes: +200
* Legacies (children of alumni): +160

Affirmative action does nothing but legalize racism and discrimination for every race except whites and serves as punishment for slavery that ended 150 years ago.

What is truly sad is that the slaves were prisoners from the inter tribal wars in Africa and were sold into slavery by their own people.

So in all actuality they have been pissed off for hundreds of years at the end consumer instead of their own people that sold them into slavery in the first place.

By the way, my ancestors came to this country in 1932 so quit treating me like my family enslaved your family.

Affirmative action is philosophically inconsistent. If "all men are created equal" shouldn't everyone have opportunities based on individual achievement. That race, sex, or religion should have no bearing on whether a peson gets a job, is accepted into a college, or is eligable for a grant or scholarship. As long as there is a ruler used that is not based on the individual ability of an applicant, there will be discrimination.

Yes, affirmative action is unfair. The argument I hear most often for affirmative action is the blacks were enslaved for hundreds of years and then discriminated against. Well, I would like to ask people who use this argument whether or not they PERSONALLY were ever slaves or whether they PERSONALLY were ever discriminated against to the extent that it really had a detrimental impact on their life. If not, then it doesn't matter what happened to their parents or grandparents, they are making excuses. If I were Jewish, does that give me the right to special treatment because Hitler killed millions of Jews? No, it doesn't.

For three hundred years Blacks endured slavery, and all that went with it. For a hundred years after "freedom," Blacks endured discrimination and hostility. Affirmative action is an attempt to help Blacks to catch up with the rest of society.

So is slavery. So is racisism and social profiling. Affirmative action allowed minorities to get educated and get jobs in white only industries.
