I am from Colombia, and if you watched the movie Mr. and Mrs Smith you can see that they show Bogota -Colombia and I hate that because first of all, Bogota is a big city with about 8 million people, really nice and full of buildings, beautiful, and second of all, we are not in war, and we don't chase turists, yeah our goverment has problems and the rebels fight IN THE MONTAINS not in cities, and that movie just show something that is not even close to what it is. I just want to be clear for those who think that Colombia is just a jungle and war. it is not like that at all. if you are curious visit this web site www. colombialink.com and see how nice it is.

I totally agree with you!!! I´m from Colombia also and the movies show us as if we were living in huts, surrounded by animals, in a "Pesebre" you know what I mean, it is so ridiculous, that these movies make me laugh sometimes jajaja, it is really frustrating when they stereotype us because of some actions that some few people do and make us see as if we were all awfully dangerous.

That´s not true at all!!! Not every single person in my country is a drug dealer, and definitely not all of us are violent, only that a few bad guys make us look like if we were like that. And let me tell you a secret, believe it or not, we also have houses, and buildings and universities, and schools, and stores, and all the things other countries have, so please stop showing the wrong image about us!!.

And of course these movies are not very helpful when it comes to change the image we have in front of the rest of the world. I just ask for a few respect, we definitely deserve it, most of us are hard workers and decent people, so please make sure to have some research done before you make a movie, because otherwise you´ll only be showing how ignorant you are regarding different cultures!!! Shame on you!!!

Because producers on the whole do not care about truth or fairness or depicting things as realistically as they can. It's all about the MIGHTY DOLLAR and what place is cheaper or easier to film in. I'm from Chicago and get tired of seeing movies that are set in Chicago filmed in Canada. It's cheaper for the producer, because Canada does not tax the studios/producers as much as some American big cities. They don't mean to slight us (those who care about how our cities are depicted). They just simply don't care and they think the average movie goer is too stupid to notice or care.

I agree with you. A lot of times, producers just put in what they think people want to see.

I do have a question for you, though. If you're from Colombia, then why do you have an American flag in your background? Just curious.

They don't even research their OWN country for gosh sakes. Most of the film today seem to be shot in Canada due to lower shooting costs, but they try and pass off Toronto as Philadelphia, or Vancouver as Seattle, etc. If you've ever been to those places, you know in an instant that what you are seeing isn't there, but filmakers are limited by budget as to what they can shoot for locations - so don't expect it to change anytime soon.

its all stereo typing, they do not even come close when they write a movie about native American Indians either, just look at the movie Pocahontas,i am a direct descendant...she was not depicted right in none of the movies about her or any other natives.it will take someone from Colombia to do it right.

yes dear you are dead right, why they dont research other pple's countries before they shoot a movie, The americans dont care so long as they get quick cash, and too they like belittling other pple's countries. eg Africa, they show all the horrible and scaring things about Africa, but just try to come to Africa, Especially KENYA, its a beautifull country with exotic animals, safaris, nice hotels, nice environment, but when they shoot the movie Out of Africa(was shot in Kenya) they showed that all Kenyans we live in bushes, thats not true, they have shot so many movies in AFrica and always they portray us badly, yes there are problems but not all of Africa, half of African doesnt have the problems you see on TV, it really hurts, especially in KENYA WE DONT FIGHT, and they show it as we are in bush fighting, and dieing, im fed up of americans. they can portray youir country badly and pple we beleive what they see.
