You can get them now. There is dealer down the road from my home that has two 15 passenger vans for sale, that run on natural gas. You can get a car that runs on E85 right now. Anyone in your town selling E85 ethanol? There are lots of experimental vehicles running around now, that run on hydrogen fuel cells. Because they are experimental they will be very expensive to buy.
In silicon valley, there are several new companies who have developed battery-powered vehicles, concentrating on sports cars for the present. When they go on sale in a year or two, look to pay about $120,000.00 for one.
You're probably looking for cheap vehicles to run on cheap alternate, non-carbon-based fuels. It ain't gonna happen in our lifetime.

It will not happen in our lifetime in the US. Maybe they will make them, but we will never buy them. We live in a society that would rather drive the hummer and pay the $3.50 in gas than drive little gas efficient cars. Maybe when gas hits $8 a gallon like in the UK we will finally switch over.
