What kind of backpack should I buy for my brother.?

He travels a lot, so we want a carry on size for planes. However, he also hikes and camps, so I was thinking something that expands would be good and it has to be durable.

For long term quality and versatility, I would strongly endorse either REI gear or Timbuk2.
