broadband modem with Wi-Fi router and plug in USB WiFi adapter under £40 from www.dabs.com.

plug in the broadband router and modem in to the room were the phone line is. then plug the USB stick (once you have installed the driver software) into the second PC.

set up the Wi-Fi security and the firewall to block all other devices that you dont own by Filtering which devices you want to allow access to your network set up the MAC address of all the Wi-Fi devices in the filter.

you can have upto Four computers connected VIA cable to the router with additional Wi-Fi connectors.

have one pc in the same room as the phone line and direct connect (cable) it to the router. if you dont do this you will need an aditional Wi-Fi adapter for the other computers on your home network.

the reason for filtering the devices on your network is simply so that you don't end up being kicked off your OWN network by unauthorised access. you should also block the router from broadcasting it's signal.

and all firewalls should block in and outgoing ICMPand ICMPv6

There should be no problem doing this - its exactly how and why we do it. We have only small number of telephone sockets in this house so to avoid wires we use a wireless network and DECT phones.

It can be helpful to hard wire one PC into the router at first so you can set up security etc.

Cost depends on what you want to do. You should be able to set it up for one PC for about £70-80 taking account of no free offers. The one thing you have to watch is that you get signal - this should not be a problem - we used to get signal from the house next door (and could log on as well!) until they tightened their security!

All you will need to do is get a wireless router to connect to the outlet, and a wireless network card for your computer. Total cost can range from about $75 for both to a couple hundred dollars if you go for the higher quality stuff. check out www.pricegrabber.com for some good prices.

You will need to buy & install a wireless router to your pc plugged into that outlet and then install wireless cards in your other pcs. You will then have created a wireless network in your house.
