Under god was added by Eisenhower in the 1950's. It is NOT part of our heritage. The pledge of alliance is not mandatory for anyone. You are under no obligation to take it or stand for it.

As for me, I don't care if the phrase is there or not. I will serve and protect my country with or without any adherence to a Christian god.

I grew up saying it and turned out okay. I'm use to it. Times change, however. A lot of things we grew up doing are outmoded. (remember air raid drills in case of nuke attack?) Will removing those words from the pledge make you believe less in God? No.

I sympathize with your feelings, but guess I can go either way. It's just words.

The Founders left England to pursue religious freedom and tolerance, not to start a theocracy.

It was complete Bull to have it put in in the first place back in the 50's. It never should have been added in and shouldn't be in now

I for one believe it SHOULD be taken out. There are more and more people who do not belive in god or the christian god who live in the United States.

I remember growing up, this started in kindergarden, one of my classmates was allowed to "sit out" the pledge because her family was atheist. She was, of course, made fun of, but she did was she believed in.

No. Why give the atheists the benefit of the doubt. There are more believers than non believers and we will not be pushed aside. We will not stand by and have the U.S. Constitution's interpretation bent and twisted to mean something it doesnt say. If the atheists want a fight, we'll give it too them.
