They are such a unique form of entertainment, that it's hard to say. I saw a screening of an over the top film once and half the audience was laughing with the movie (the native speakers) and half the audience (everybody else) were laughing AT the movie. But we all had a great time, so I think Bollywood is great in America, if only they'd play a little more of it in cities other than San Francisco.

I am an Indian born in America. I think most Bollywood films are really silly. They have the same story (boy meets girl, they fall in love, families hate each other, at the end everybody is happy and they get married). There are some really good Bollywood films, however these are rare.

I have never seen the films. However, when I lived in New Jersey there was a channel that showed Hindu programs and music videos. I really loved the videos, they were made with great quality, grace and elegance. I loved the music and the dancing as well as the images. I simply enjoyed them a great deal. When I moved out of state the one single thing I miss from living there is the lack of Hindu Television programing in Florida. I am Puerto Rican, by the way, but I appreciate the beauty of a different culture. I hope that some time some of the music videos from India become more popular/maybe some of their stars cross-over and we are more exposed to that part of their culture.

I don't think Americans are aware of Bollywood much to begin with. But I think a majority would find them strange. Most Americans take in entertainment from just America.

I really, really like Bollywood films. I feel like they have the innocence of old Hollywood films and I love the dance numbers. I also find it interesting how the women are allowed to be really beautiful and sexy in these movies but they are not degraded -- they are still treated with respect in the movies. I think it's the dance numbers that really do it for me -- they are wonderful.

From what I see on PBS preview Bollywood is stuck in musicals

I have heard really good things about Bollywood. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to go about seeing movies produced there.

Haha, there is a video store in my neighborhood with a big banner on their sign that reads

"Hollywood and Bollywood. Different wood, same tree"

Haha, I think that's hilarious.

I don't think most Americans know anything about the films. I only know, because my sister in-law is from Bangladesh.
