5 times 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002 - look at the number of stars on the team uniforms.... (see other answers for where) - can't be asked to repeat it)

The cup is not for keeps - they will use it til there is no more space to write the names of winners - 2038. Then a new cup.
The previous cup - the Jules Rimet cup/trophy was for keeps - for whichever team had 3 wins first (Brazil) - a secret replica was used during the post WC final celebrations it was actually even stolen and recovered before the Brazilians took the original back to Brazil after winning 3 times where it was stolen again and never recovered (they say the gold was melted down). A replica was made by the Brazilians which the still have...

they have also been in several finals and lost as well - for instance against urguay in rio in 1950 and in france in 98 they lost to france.

PS they have won more than anyone else
closest rivals are the germans and italians with 3 wins, argentina and uruguay with 2, england and france with 1 each.

finally a european team has never won outside of europe while brazil has only won once in europe - other than that only won by european teams.

Hope that clears up anything else that may crop up.

PPS Ronaldo has scored more WC goals than anyone else (15)
in 4 WC (1 non-playing) closet rival is gerd muller with 14 in 2 WC.

5 times and this will make it the 6th time and the second time that FIFA will give the cup for keeps. FIFA should be getting a new Cup for 2010

Actually... they've been world champions 5 times, but the former world cup's name was Jules Rimette, they kept it in Mexico 1970 (third time world champions). That cup was stolen and never found. They've won the FIFA world cup 2 times, in USA 94 and Japan-Korea 2002
