Well, first I must ask that if you are a French man currently reading this question please take no offense, because I truly admire your culture and in no way want you to take this with any offense. With that being said I will explain my curiousity.
I am an American woman, and my former lover was French. He was such a rare individual, and this romantic interlude was in short everything that I had ever wanted in a relationship. Unfortunatly tragedy struck for the both of us, and the feelings we had for each other became quite poisonus. I must add that this was the fault of us both..he was never ..ever..cruel to me...in fact it was quite the opposite..he acted like Prince Charming. Currently I am working on a heavily fictionalized story about him, and as some research have been watching French films. The male actors in these films absolutly have alot of his charisma, but are of course nothing like him as an individual. Do most French men have this "seducing" characteristic?

No, French men are much like men from any other part of the world. I think the reason he is so charming and seducing is two-fold. First, it's probably because he really was charming, polite, well-mannered, etc. Also, however, I bet in part it's because you're American. The French are seen by Americans as romantic. The foreign is exotic. There's something sexy about an accent. So you got lucky with a really nice guy, and that, combined with a cultural stereotype and a media that supports it, makes him seem like Prince Charming. Trust me, though. There's still plenty of rude, stuck-up, self-righteous men over there; America doesn't have a monopoly.

If you are writing a book it would be better to see first hand how real french men are. Go to France for the summer and do your research if you want to have at least an idea of what they are really like. The movies are not real life.

I think it's a common cultural thing with men of Latin descent (French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese) to emphasize the romantic stuff.

It's too broad a question.
I would say no, they are not all or mostly alike, just as no other group of people are.

When I visited Paris a few years ago , I found myself getting alot of stares from men (not perverted or anything). It seems they will look at you until you are out of sight, but they all seemed to be gentlemen, no hissing or anything.
