I thought it was a little overrated - the actors were top-notch and the story was original, but I wasn't that impressed. No emotional grab, for me. For that genre, I liked Identity much better (the Cusack-Liotta one). And Kalifornia, Kiss the Girls and the Bone Collector were better but didn't get much hype.

I saw the movie recently and enjoyed it, but didn't see where all the praise was coming from. It's an interesting concept weaved into a murder mystery, but I kept thinking that if they removed that premise, it would just be a standard police procedural. The performances were all good as was the look and mood of the film, but occasionally the movie felt like it wasn't going anywhere and kept repeating itself. I'm a fan of David Fincher and really enjoy his approach to movie making, but this didn't really resonate as much as his other films have.

Such a question can never be asked in a generalized manner because every individual perceives the movie in his or her own way. Therefore don't you think it's a bit irrelevant to ask this question here? You better try posting your own comments on sites related to movies. Nevertheless, many people I know of, are not truly satisfied by the way the idea was portrayed.

I really liked it - it was pretty dark & gruesome but had such an unexpected ending. I like trying to figure out the ending of a movie & I never would've guessed THAT ending!
I think that's why I liked it - it was unique.

I liked it a lot. I didn't see the ending coming either. I thought the punishments for the sins were very Dante's Inferno-ish and interesting. Everytime I watch it, I hope Brad Pitt doesn't shoot the guy, but he does...oh well.

It was a good movie with a great ending. The movie really is only good the first time that you saw it, if you didnt already know the ending.

I loved the movie. not my favorite Kevin Spacey film. that's usual suspects. or my favorite Morgan Freeman film, that's Shawshank Redemption. but it does bring together a wonderful cast and i love the storyline with it's religious background. though i dont' consider myself particularly religious, i love seeing, reading, or talking about religions and their ideology.

I agree with you 100%. I don't understand why everyone thought it was such a great movie.
