Blessed continent; richest land of natural resources; the preserver of the Israelites; the only piece of land God, himself, found safe to run to and the land whose resources helped revealed to the rest of the world just how evil other human beings can become because of greed.

The first thing that comes to my mind when the word Africa is mentioned is "elephants" and lots of them.

Mentioned in how? In what context? I hope this isn't another one of those pointless queries that go absolutely no where. And people are gonna say dumb s*** like giraffes and lions. When I think of the word Africa, I think of PRIDE. Thanks for my 2 points- sucka!

I think of my adopted brother, who has the biggest smile I've ever seen, and who is a sweetheart. I think of the generosity the people of Kampala, Uganda showed my sister. And I think of the ecodiversity, and I wonder if it will all be destroyed because people are so greedy and power-hungry.

Children being drafted to fight in the very militia that is killing their parents. Slavery Ethiopians shooting at American helicopters that try to bring food. An American GI's body being drug behind a jeep. Rhodesians killing white farmers and stealing their farms. Nelson Mandela dressed in a suit while his countrymen die of AIDS.
Oh, yeah, I forgot, "pride".

War, genocide in Darfur, atrocities against women and children, and desperate poverty and starvation. Also, beautiful land, friendly people, and fun safari's and travel opportunities. What a land of contrast.

A continent with much undeveloped potential in the majority of its countries but, rife with tribal discord and political/economic corruption that negates that potential for improving life.
