There were never any real Philosopher Kings. It was a concept that the philosopher Plato laid out in his utopian vision of society in his book The Republic.

To Plato, Socrates was the closest one to a philosopher king. If your talking philosopher king traits. I would say Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, Gandhi, M.L. King. Those famous fellas where definitely outside of the cave in their day!!
