You can have both a dog and a horse and have time for both. It's really easy. Teach the dog to get along with the horse. If you ride in an open area where there are no cars or other dogs the dog can and will follow you, that is if the dog is a medium to large size. when the dog gets tired put it up in the saddle with you. Both the dog and horse will have to get used to it though. I've ridden for years and had at least 3 dogs with me most of the time. If the dog is small just leach it to lay across the saddle in front of you. my dogs would jump up on my horse and sit on the its rump. I would get quite a few looks and also picture taken of the three of us.

I dont think it fair to give you dog away who has been with you for how long? If you must give the dog away make sure to find a very good home but,how would you feel if somone was going to give you away to get a new mate? maybe you can keep the dog and take him with you when you go to see the horse get a trainer to teach him besides you probably cant keep the horse in the house with you so keep the dog as a companion and better yet get a dog sitter to take care of him so you when you with the horse you dont have to lose youdog friend or make a choice between the 2 of them hard to make a choice between your pet friends

If you don't have time for both of them you should not get the horse. Horses need alot more care and cost alot more to care for than a dog. Dogs are pretty easy to care for as long as you feed them let them follow you around as you go about doing your chores. They pretty much take care of themself. But horses eat alot more and need a stable to go into when it rains then you have to clean out the stable and the vet bill will be much more than that of the dog.Brushing the horse takes time as brushing the dog is much easier. If you really feel you have not enough time for both do not get a horse.

I'm with most of the others , DON'T get the horse and keep your dog. Horses cost a LOT LOT more money then a dog will ever cost and they take alot more time and care !!!!! So think about that !!! I love horses to but I would NEVER give up my dog just to have a horse, that just cruel.

So I'm just siting here just wondering how you can take care of a horse because as you know I have 9 of them and thy take up all my time so how are you going to be able to do this maybe you should not have any pets if you cant make room for two of them.

Actually the horse & dog can get along so you can take care of them at the same time. Thats what I do. Both can be time consuming but you can work them together and the 3 of you can bond and you can have an extended family.

If you don't have time, you probably shouldn't get a horse. Dogs and horses take alot of time. I know--I have 2 horses and 7 dogs. Another thing, some horses hate dogs. My horse stomped one of our dogs bc she didn't want him in the pasture. Be careful!

Don't get the horse. You had your dog first. Don't you love your dog? Don't give up one of your best friends for something you don't even have yet. Horses are much more work anyways.

Don't get the horse. You already chose to have a dog. If you don't have time for two animals, you should follow through with your first choice, your dog.
