This is actually a pretty good question. The answer is complex, and not emotional. The Democratic base is a far left-wing anti-American socialist-communist group. The repeated appeal towards this base is more for lining their pockets during campaign season than anything else. It's a good front, but at the base of the argument EVERYONE agrees that unless we win the war on terror, we all lose. The debate is, of course, HOW we win.

Osama bin laden is a cunning animal. He (it) is going to be anti-American. He always was, even before his fatwa against the United States in 98. He is smart enough to realize that the Democrats are in opposition to the president. It's no surprise (or shouldn't be) that he has chosen to use the lines of the democrats against the President. The only way they can win the war is to defeat America from within. How better than to incite the Vietnam-era-style protests. This war cannot be won on the court of public opinion, but it sure as hell can be lost there. That's why they sound amazingly alike...

You are asking a rhetorical question that is oversimplified to the point of being absurd. There are millions of Democrats. So many, in fact, that they have made for extremely close elections this entire decade. They have a wide variety of viewpoints (which is to be expected since they number into the millions) and different ideas about how to go about fixing the mess this country is in right now. Some Democratic ideas and complaints are quite reasonable, while some are as absurd as the crackpot ideas that have been coming from the extreme right for over a generation. The fact that you can only see a cartoonishly simple view of modern political discourse shows that you are not at all interested in helping anyone fix anything.

Please understand this: criticizing America during any administration, during war, peace, recession, prosperity is absolutely what this country needs and will continue to need in order to survive. Your silly fear of people criticizing this country is less American than those who doing the criticizing. In that way, Bin Laden is working on you, since you appear to be in favor of revoking people's freedoms, and that is one of the things he is hell bent on accomplishing.

The Democrats are the most unpatriotic people in the world. They hate America, they dont want us to fly the American flag because it may offend someone. They think we should befriend those who attacked us on 9/11, what ever that's about.

Another from the "America is perfect" club. Some day you will have to realize that there are problems that need improvement in the US. Denialists like yourself blame the people who point out those problems that need to be fixed for all of your problems.

You anti- thinking people need to get a life.

Being called Bin Laden? Wow, that's a new one. Ugly one too.

Usually I hear "Un-American." This is the most in-vogue conservative jeer these days. It's all the rage to call "lefties" un-American. Gosh, even one guy misspelled it when trying to insult me on the internet. Sad. Anyway, back to the point. I am appalled when liberals are called some form of un-American. It's a derogatory term, a word that implies that we hate freedom and justice, which is what our country is SUPPOSED to stand for. Why are we called un-American for wanting freedom and justice, for asking questions, challenging our government, our president? This is what makes America so special. We have the freedom to do these things. Questioning and protesting is not only a choice that we have as an American, it is necessary. When we see evil seeping into our government, poor choices made, lies told, atrocities committed are we supposed to turn a blind eye and say (more or less), "Sieg Heil, President Bush!"? No. Americans (or, really, anyone) SHOULD NOT follow their government blindly. We have a responsibility to keep politicians in check in order to prevent corruption. Objecting the war in Iraq is VERY AMERICAN.

In fact, let me give you a quote by a wonderful American and former U.S. President:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Teddy Roosevelt

Liberals and Democrats have also been accused of Republican bashing. True, we think Bush is the worst president in U.S. History. We make absolutely no secret of it. However, I think you'll find it true for most Democrats that we are very objective on issues. We seek the truth and reject being sheep. We refuse to follow the crowd and we refuse to keep quiet. Democrats, in general, are not afraid to do this. In fact, we object members of our own party quite often, those who keep quiet and play it safe to maintain a kind of neutrality among voters and Republican colleagues. Truth does not mean silence and complacency. Truth means speaking out and learning more about the situation that lies before us. The United States is not the biblical Garden of Eden where the apple is forbidden to us. To not eat from the apple of knowledge is to welcome certain death - the death of a great country.

I'm sorry (actually, I'm not), I cannot turn blind eye to the reality of what we are doing to innocent people in Iraq. We are killing them by the tens of thousands. INNOCENTS. Not terrorists. Not individuals linked to Saddam. Listen to me. INNOCENT men, women, and yes, many, many children. And EVERY DAY this war goes on, we kill hundreds more. Republicans claim we are saving the Iraqi people from terrorism - never mind that it's not the reason we went to war. (And don't try to say that the Gulf War era weapons are the missing WMDs. That will fool some in this country but not us.)

Back on track... Republicans claim we are helping the Iraqi people be free. The truth is, most of them hate our guts. They want us GONE. Just imagine for one moment (please, just TRY) that the fictional country of Saturnia occupied our country, shooting and bombing the United States for the purpose of getting rid of evil baddies in our government. Never mind that we never asked Saturnia to do this. Never mind that we want them to go away. Never mind that they have no current plans to leave.

And, while doing this, Saturnia is killing tens of thousands of Americans left and right with their friendly fire. Even if we had an evil government that also killed innocent Americans, and the claim by Saturnia is that they want to save us from corrupt regime, we would still not find it acceptable to have other innocent Americans killed by Saturnia. We would not put up with our families being expendable. YOU would not put up with your spouse and children being killed in front of you. Even if they were not the intended target, would you be ok with it? Hell, no.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that this war helps Iraq. I honestly don't see how but let's just say it does. The war is done. Does anyone honestly believe that we will have no more enemies in Iraq? That there won't be successors for each and every bad guy we kill or kidnap? There will be a replacement for every single one we take out of commission. And you better believe they will be taking aggressive aim at the U.S. next. Terrorism will not end once we are gone from Iraq. We will be a huge target for those who hate us, even bigger of a target than we ever have been. It's very likely the U.S. will be in deeper trouble than we ever have been.

They are trying to take advantage of the 9/11 attacks and the ensuing war on terror to make gains in upcoming elections, since they couldn't do it with candidates or on issues. It is called POLITICS. (shameful)
