We are living in a basement suite and are being run out by tones of ants. There has been about six large heavy rainfalls in the area in the past month and high heat periods between them and with each the ants seam to get worse. Everything I have done seams to increase rather then decrease the number of ants. We have a newborn daughter and therefore would like a chemical free solution if possible. So far i have made my SO become much cleaner and no food (not a single scrap) is being left left any where for them to get at. We have also layed the little tin style ant traps outside but this only seamed to make the number of ants inside grow. PLEASE help I am at my wits end and well it is funny watching DSO chase ants with a spray bottle of vinegar and water it really isnt doing any good.

Sprinkle borax around the perimeter outside. They won't cross the line. You can buy it in the aisle with the clothes detergent. I think the brand name is 20 mule team or 40 mule team, or something similar.

Vinegar doesn't work long I tried it.
Terro works very well with in 24 hours my army of ants was gone.
Go to Wal-Mart or a hardware store. I went to tractor supplies. I had a ton of them ...I am talking thousands of ants.
I put a drop where the army of ants were coming in at and BAM! they were gone in less than 24 hours and I haven't seen a one since. I had them in my bathroom and in the kitchen and office.
They are all gone and works Great! cost less than $5.00
I promise this will work. Guaranteed
one more thing it kills the whole colony and the queen.
I do know what yor going through I been there hun. Oh! Terro sure is great! and I will always keep a bottle in my house if those pesty little ants decide to eat at my house again.

First you have to find out where they are coming in. Sprinkle a bate powder on the ground where they are coming in, they will take it up into the nest and kill all the ants in the walls that you can't see. Make sure that you check the foundation frequently for new activity, if you see any, get your bate out and sprinkle it right away before they start coming in again.

My mom used peppermint oil. Spray it full strength around the perimeter of your apt. After a rain, spray again!
