Is it near your computer or another electronic? It says right in the instructions how far away to place cordless phones from an electronic or pc.

Some phones have a channel button you can change to get better reception.

Try moving it from other electronics that may be causing the disturbance. If it doesn't work, take it back (with receipt) for a refund or exchange.

Is it a really cheap phone? If not, it's probably defective. Either way, I would take it back and get a new and/or better one.

change the channel / remove it from all other sources of interference. If no change, exchange it, if the exchange is no better, buy a better phone.
