Just like in an average neighborhood, people start to feel like you are either hiding something, think you are better than everyone else, or want others to stay out. What ends up happening is that people want to see what's behind the fence more and they foster a resentment for being kept out. Especially when you are talking about the US which essentially was founded on the premise of "freedom" - how does a fence illustrate that principle? There are other ways to handle the issues the US has, I don't believe this is the most positive or productive way.

We could even afford to put a physical fence around the White House! But a physical fence along the borders with Canada and Mexico would be prohibitively expensive, and serve no good purpose.
We have to learn how to share, and cooperate with our neighbors. My own feeling is we let anyone in who wants to come, give them a card of some different color than green, and tell them to enjoy themselves as long as they don't cause any trouble. The card would not entitle them to "entitlement programs," which I feel would make it sort of like a visitor's permit, but they could work as long as they had the same taxes deducted as the rest of us. In order to trade such a card for a green card, they'd have to go through a more elaborate screening process, probably fingerprinting and checking with the country of origin for outstanding warrants, things like that.
We can write rules that are fair, if we want to. Too many people have other reasons for what they want to do besides being fair, though, like controlling the labor market or the racial balance of our country. When you focus on the individual who wants to come to the US, for whatever reason, you can see fairness is different for different people. Give them a chance!

absolutely everyone this is right here illegally from the different united states is taken care of a similar, in accordance to the guidelines. (this is that if the guidelines are enforced.) the two borders are important, this is the version interior the folk as to why there are greater Southern entrants who're unlawful. human beings from South American countries and the islands are available via Mexico via fact they look comparable and no person will understand if the guy is from Columbia, Mexico, or Cuba, or and so on. So all and sundry blames the Mexicans. yet there are much less human beings coming in from the North Border via transformations in lifestyle. Canadians understand that our government is commonly to no longer be messed with with reference to the guidelines. Mexicans (and the different southern countries) don't comprehend this via fact our rules are no longer being enforced and because they have been given amnesty interior the 80's.

I always thought we were supposed to put the bad guys behind fences, not hard working law abiding citizens.
Why would you want to lock up people who did nothing wrong.
What upsets me the most is that we criticize and outlaw people south of our border who sacrifice being with their families and travel to another culture and language structure just to work 12-14 hour days for $50 a day, at the same time give millions of dollars to President Vincent Fox of Mexico for ?????
Something's wrong...something is emphatically wrong.

Yes terminator style, that is to say with warning sign and light combined with a mine field and automated weapons system that would shoot humanoids on sight for illegal entry.
Only one problem with this system is criminals would use it to waste people, so a fence or say think wall would be the best approach.

Thats depends. Are we trying to keep people out or keep us in? A giant wall around the White House would be great, especially if Georgie is inside, then again we need him to get out in 2008.
