[I'm presuming a permanent shift of some kind, from the context of your question, such as the icecap meltdown I mentioned.]

Firstly, the world might well become a place in which only the sturdiest survive, and many of us ergo wouldn't. That aside, it's basic skills that will allow people to survive. Some can tie a splint, make a campfire, hunt, employ rudimentary carpentry skills to erect shelters, others (I'm one of them) can speak languages and aid the many affected find help. If we're left in a world in which there's nothing more than a pair of rocks to bang-together, suddenly those with only financial or computer skills (not picking-on them, per se) might be left wanting.

If this ever happens it's because of zombies.

The first thing I would do is get all my buddies together, and their families. We would truck out to my grand father's lake house. We would raid the gun store, the grocery store, and the gas station. We would make games of killing zombies, and build a new world according to our rules!

If no one I cared about died, or turned into a zombie, this would rule!
