An annulment (usually) means the marriage never happened in the eyes of the church. This can only be accomplished if you can prove the marriage wasn't consumated. A lot of places make the consummation of a marriage a requirement for it to be legally binding.

An annulment voids, or in other words erases your original marriage. A divorce ends your marriage but you were still considered married before the divorce decree.

An annulment is more complex and more expensive. Many lawyers will not want to deal with an annulment.

You would file for an annulment in your case. it basically means that the marriage never happened, and there is no joint property, you both keep what you brought into the marriage. With a divorce, there is separation of all property, and is much more in depth.
