Removing carpet is not hard from a plywood floor. Simply cut the carpet with a good sharp box cutter or similar knife. It is easiest to cut it into smaller (3ft wide) strips and then roll it up to remove from your house. Once this is done you will need to use a hammer to remove the tackless strips around the edge of the room. Expect this to take 2 to 3 hours to do all the work. I wold advise using concrete backer board on top of the plywood to help stiffen the floor prior to placing tile. This will help reduce the potential for cracks in the tile due to large deflections.

If the carpet is in your basement or you have a slab on grade foundation it may take longer because they will have probably glued the carpet or pad to the concrete. You will never be able to get the glue completely off of the concrete but that should not be a problem because you can place a self leveling flowable mixture 1/4" thick over the floor to help level things out prior to placing the tile or other material.

Ripping up the carpet is easy as long as its not glued down. But be careful of the tack strips (that hold down the carpet) around the perimeter of the room - mean stuff. Also, wear a dust mask when ripping the carpet out. The bacteria and little bugs that will be in it can make you v e r y s i c k if you breath it in from the dust.

Lift a corner of the carpet up and pull. If it's on tack strip it will come up easier then you think. If it is glued cut it in strips and peel it off with an ice scraper.

If you don't know what you are doing . It is every hard to do.
you have to move every thing out of the room. you need a special tool to make it easier to do .sorry I don't know the name of the tool. but then you have to take up staples out of the floor. and clean all the dirt up . If you have the money , pay some one to do it. it not a lot of fun.

It's easy. The most important part is to make sure the surface is clean and free of tacks and stuff.
