I HATE it when that happens!
Your best bet: Just let them keep the security deposit. Why? Because to get anything scorched in out (am I confusing anyone yet?) you're really going to have to sand that baby quite a bit. If they're old floors and have been sanded more than once already, you may sand too much and end up having to replace the entire floor!
Good luck, brother!

Hoof prints scorched on the floor? Was the devil walking on your floor? Well, if they are not too deep, you might be able to sand them out and refinish the floor.

How did you get scorched in hoof- prints anyways? Since its burned iin you'll probably have to replace that part of the floor.

Scorched in as burned in? Forget the security deposit just hope you don't have to pay for a new floor. The entire floor would have to be sanded and redone.

Did you have a flaming cow come walking through your apartment? I don't even want to know how you got scorched in hoof-prints.

If the cost of having the floor stripped and repaired is more than what is being held in security just let them keep it.
