Don't try too hard to read. It's one of the best ways to spoil your eyes (reading in the dark).

I, if have any urge to read in the dark, use my mobile phone light. Didn't find any problem with it. Perhaps the best way to go (you have your cell phone with you all the time).

large print are better to read in the dark. i would read in my room with only the moonlight coming in from the window. it was easier that small.
